Columbia Lions (2003-05)

Updated graphic.

I have to admit: I’ve ignored both Columbia and the decade of the “aughties” so far, so I’ll kill two birds with one kitty today and present the Columbia uniform from 2003-05. This is just a mishmash of every ugh uniform ever done: Times number font (Kansas University), bulky horizontal sleeve pattern (Tennessee Titans), a tiny helmet logo that’s hard to make out (many Arena Football League teams), wide pants stripes (anyone other than the Steelers) … the list of mishaps just goes on. Thankfully, the current Lions uniform is awesome, even if the team isn’t.
One note: Columbia wore a throwback alternate in 2003 as part of the school’s 250th anniversary celebration that year. The jersey was a tribute to the 1933 team that played in the Rose Bowl and the helmet honored the 1961 team that won the school’s first (and, well, only) Ivy League title. I can’t add the uniform to this post in good conscience because I don’t have a decent copy of the small red patch worn on the sleeves. If anyone out there has a quality image of the patch, pass it on!

What IS that little red patch on the sleeves?

  1. The red patch is the Rose Bowl Logo: https://madison.com/wsj/news/local/education/university/badger-fans-begin-booking-trips-to-the-rose-bowl/article_5350bd76-fd99-11df-af34-001cc4c002e0.html
